Do you guys plan on doing any actual bouts or is this mostly so you guys can dress up and get attention?? All I see is a bunch of over done photo ops and media stories but very little in the way of actual competition. I think you all just like being able to say “Oh look at me I am a derby girl.” From what I hear you do an awful lot of fund raising and what you had one bout?? So where does all the money go. Its sad you ask for donations when you do no bouts. Just because you practice all the time doesn’t mean people should give you money. Maybe you should think more about doing the actual sport and focus less on what your going to wear. I was so excited when I heard there would be a team in NL but what a let down that team has been. Hope you guys get you act together. Good luck.
Roller derby has never existed in NL and we have had to learn everything from the very begining. We’ve been playing the sport for one year now (as of January 17th) and we have had three bouts for our friends and family. This summer we will be having our first season and you are more than welcome to come. There is a lot of time and planning involved in everything we do and we want to make sure we are ready to put off a quality public bout. If you think we just like saying “I’m a derby girl” you dont know any of us personally. If you did you would know all the hard work that we put in to trying to get this league into a provincially recognized sport. Also all the girls pay to play this sport. Sometimes like with any organization thats just not enough so there is also fundraising done. With only one place in the entire city that would allow us to practice in their gym we have a lot of costs to keep playing the sport that we all love. So I’m sorry if you were dissappointed and assumed that out of no where we would be able to have full public bouts before we even knew how to skate. If you really want to help us and see us succeed I’d ask you to come help by becoming a ref or an NSO for us!
Dear Derby girls ,I too was disappointed that although I keep seeing and hearing so much about you ,I am unable to come and enjoy a bout. But I appreciate that you want to perfect it before you put it out there. Can’t wait to be able to come see you guys in action !!!! Hats off to you for starting it up !!!
I for one was thrilled when I found out about it and I look forward to being able to attend a bout.Keep up the awesome work !!!!!!!
