709 Derby Girls Games on RogersTV NL!

If you turn on Rogers TV in Newfoundland and Labrador over the next two weeks, chances are you will see a 709 Derby Girls 2013 season game!

Last year, the fine folks at RogersTV NL lugged a ton of gear and some great people to The Glacier in Mount Pearl to film two of our regular season bouts. Now, the time the 709 Derby Girls have all been waiting for is finally here – our games are airing!

Starting March 20th and ending April 3rd, RogersTV NL will be airing a serious amount of derby.

Seriously. A lot. It would be easier to tell you when our games AREN’T airing than when they are!

If you’re curious about derby, checking out these games is a great way to get a feel for what it’s all about. These games feature veteran blockers, brand-spanking-new jammers and everything in between.

2013 Season Game 3 will air March 20th to the 27th and Game 4 will air March 27th to April 3rd. Check out the RogersTV NL schedule for full information on airing time.

The 709 Derby Girls league (skaters, refs, officials, volunteers and supporters) would like to send a huge THANK YOU to Michael Fisher and everyone at RogersTV NL for all their work in making this happen. Derby love to you!

2014 Roller Derby Recruitment

We will be hosting an open recruitment event on Sunday, March 23, 2014!

No try-outs or skating experience is necessary. Our coaches will teach you the very basics of skating safely.

Referees, coaches, and volunteers can be male or female but the players are all women. All shapes and sizes are welcome, but you must be at least 19 years of age to play.

When: Sunday, March 23 from 7:30-9:30pm

Where: Mount Pearl Intermediate School Gym

What to Expect: You will meet members of our executive board, coaches, and some of our league skaters. Our coaches will teach you the basics of roller skating with proper posture and how to stay safe. Arrive in comfortable gym appropriate clothing and bring something to drink.

There are no fees for this event. You will be required to sign an insurance waiver, and provide MCP and emergency contact information. Details on season registration will be given to you at the end of the night.
Roller Derby requires the following equipment. If you do not have access to this, please email to register your sizes and we will provide gear for you.

- elbow pads
- knee pads
- wrist guards
- quad roller skates
- mouth guard*

*You MUST provide your own mouth guard that is properly molded to your teeth. You can pick up an inexpensive “boil & bite” mouth guard at places like Walmart, SportCheck, Canadian Tire. Without a mouth guard you will not be allowed to skate.

Are you interested in helping out but skating isn’t your strong suit? No problem. We are always looking for off-skates volunteers for games and events. Please contact us for more information.
