2013 Recruitment
We will be hosting an open recruitment event on Sunday, February 24, 2013!
No try-outs or skating experience is necessary. Our fresh meat coaches will teach you the basics of skating safely.
Referees and coaches can be male or female but the players are all women! All shapes and sizes are welcome, but you must be at least 19 years of age to play.
When: Sunday, February 24 from 7-9pm
Where: Virginia Park Elementary School gym located at 14 Middleton Street, St. John`s, NL (The doors to the gym are around the back of the building)
What to Expect: You will meet members of our executive board, fresh meat coaches, and some of our league skaters. Our coaches will teach you the basics of roller skating with proper posture and how to stay safe. Arrive in comfortable gym appropriate clothing.
There are no fees for this event. You will be required to sign an insurance waiver, and provide MCP and emergency contact information. Details on season registration will be given to you at the end of the night.
Roller Derby requires the following equipment. If you do not have access to this, please email info@709derbygirls.com to register your sizes and we will provide gear for you. You MUST provide your own mouth guard that is properly molded to your teeth. You can pick up an inexpensive “boil & bite” mouth guard at places like Walmart or Canadian Tire, or you can start with a derby recommended quality mouth guard from Signal Skates. Without a mouth guard you will not be allowed to skate.
- mouth guard
- helmet
- quad roller skates
- elbow pads
- knee pads
- wrist guards
Are you interested in helping out but skating isn’t your strong suit? No problem. We are always looking for off-skates volunteers for games. Please contact us for more information at info@709derbygirls.com.
